It is a very decorative shrub, straight, with slightly pendulous branches, growing to 3 m of height.
It is decorative mainly because of its beautiful, campanula pink or white flowers, produced of several together. It is easy to cultivate because of its low soil requirements.
It grows the best on a permeable soil, with moderate mineral nutrients. The soil should be humid. It prefers sunny habitats (then it blooms well) but tolerates half shade. It tolerates also air pollution. It should be covered in the winter. The shrub is mainly used in gardens in urban areas and as hedges. It is also used in combination with Philadelphus coronarius or Forsythia.
