The best plants for hedges – Taxus baccata
It is a green tree or a big shrub growing slowly, 3-4 cm of height in 30 years. The leaves are dark green, shiny needles, arranged both sides of a stem. The fruit on feminine plants are covered with red aril.
It needs quite fertile, humid and permeable soils. It grows badly on dry, wet, acidulated soils. It is the most shadebeaving from coniferous but also tolerates the sun.
The root system is thick and branched, that’s why even big ones can be replanted with big clods. It is recommended for hedges and garden sculptures. It should be planted in a row, 0.5 to 0.6 m apart.
